Case Studies
The science fiction writer William Gibson is reported to have once said, "The future is already here; it just isn't evenly distributed." In the course of our work we have seen a wide spectrum of fascinating examples of the "new work environment" that are already in existence. We are in the process of compiling descriptive case studies of innovative workplaces and work practices and will make them available here free of charge as they become available.

San Francisco Telecommuting Pilot Project
(October, 2005)

This project was focused on how members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and city hall staff would be able to work and carry out their work and legislative responsibilities in the event of a natural disaster or a terrorist attack that prevented them from reaching city hall. But the pilot also demonstrated the value for Supervisors of being able to respond to their constituents on a 24x7 basis. The case study tells the story of how the pilot was developed, how it unfolded, and what outcomes it produced.
