We have just completed a greenfield development project to design, build, and assess a prototype live/work residence. This structure, which has 2180 square feet of living space and 980 square feet of primary workspace, is located in Prescott, Arizona, 95 miles northwest of Phoenix.

The residence/workspace incorporates all the design knowledge we have amassed with fifteen years of research in this area. Our design goal is to operate a prototype node on the network of "distributed workers" that can help us demonstrate, document, and evaluate the effectiveness of design alternatives, physical artifacts, and work processes.

The purpose of the project is to provide a living laboratory for all disciplines interested in evaluating design options for their products and services. The facility is a place to try things out and evaluate their effectiveness and efficiency. It is a showcase for technology, furniture, and interior design schemas that epitomize the integrated live/work place of the 21st Century. It is a facility that enables you to actually experience the workplace of the future.

The Prescott house will be the topic of another book project. The house, its design process, and the showcased technologies are now open to the public (by appointment only). To date the following firms are actively participating in the project:
