What's Happened/Happening?

We Are Not Alone in the Universe
Last month we ran an article outlining the demise of industrial capitalism and the emergence of something new ("The Dismal Science Dives into a Dismal Swamp"). Well, as luck would have it, we found a very insightful article in Fast Company magazine just a bit too late for inclusion in our piece.

The Fast Company November 2009 issue introduced its readers to the economic thinking of Noreena Hertz—one of the emergent leading thinkers in the area we wrote about. We strongly suggest you follow this thread: "How an Economist's Cry for Ethical Capitalism was Heard."

Hertz calls the next paradigm "co-op capitalism." It sounds a whole lot like the underlying principles of the "Triple Bottom Line" performance measurement system that we focus on this month ("The Triple Bottom Line").

For more information we also recommend you read "Goodbye Gucci. It's the age of co-op capitalism" in the (London) Times online.

This is one of those topics we believe you need to move from your peripheral vision to a center focus right now!

Looking Ahead

The Holidays are rapidly approaching. We've got some limited business travel planned over the next few weeks, but we're also trying to practice what we preach just a bit and work "virtually" with remote clients. We (especially Charlie) are also getting good at nurturing local clients (see our Announcement last month about the new work center in Prescott, right down the street from Charlie's own live-work facility).

If we're in your area and have a few minutes, we'd love to see you for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or "refreshments" any time after 5 PM local time (and you know what that means).

And please follow us on Twitter for more current updates on the future of work and our travel plans:  http://www.twitter.com/thefutureofwork

Give us a shout or send us a note, and if we can squeeze out some time, we'd love to say hello and share some good ideas the old-fashioned way:  face-to-face, glass in hand.
