Special Announcement:

WDC Selected to Launch a New Work Center in Prescott, Arizona

Prescott, Arizona, October 1, 2009

Teri Drew, Northern Area Director of the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG) announced today that her organization has received a grant from the Arizona Department of Commerce to establish a "Home-Based Workforce Resource Center" in Prescott.

The center will be an extension of NACOG's current "One-Stop" Workforce Investment Act resources aimed at meeting the workforce development, training, and assessment needs of a unique group of workers who are launching their own new businesses. Its purpose is to help individuals gain access to new technology tools, training, and other resources so they can grow their businesses in northern Arizona.

The program is funded for one year; it is intended to serve as a model for other programs in the region. It is currently the only one of its kind in the United States.

The program is a result of a year-long effort by the Prescott Mayor's Advisory Committee on Economic Development to secure resources and support development of a more balanced and sustainable workforce for Prescott and the surrounding region.

Ms. Drew also announced that the Work Design Collaborative (WDC), based in Prescott, will act as the prime subcontractor for the grant. WDC will lead the development of the Work Center's business and marketing plans, manage the procurement of furniture and equipment, and develop the Center's initial workforce development programs.
